Implementation methology
Good Agricultural Practices (GAP)* for oregano will be piloted in the second year of the project, on 20 hectares. In particular, zero fertilization, various levels of inorganic fertilization, producer fertilization and organic fertilization will be applied. The yields in plant mass – dry ground oregano and essential oil will be the indicator of the efficiency of the application of OGPs, along with the economic valuation (cost of cultivation), which will be done at the end of the third year.
Soil analyzes and phyllodiagnostic analyzes of the produced plant biomass will be carried out on the cultivated lands. The microbial load and foreign matter will also be determined. The fertilizers used will be evaluated in terms of their nutrient content, and plant protection substance residue analyzes will be carried out.
Quality characteristics of the oregano will be assessed before and after the application of the PMOs: organoleptic characteristics, physicochemical parameters, foreign substances, etc. The oregano plants will be characterized by sampling from the EO crops, in terms of their most important morphological characteristics. All the above data will be correlated with quality data, cultivation history, and the microclimate of the area, to investigate if conditions are established for the certification of the cultivated oregano as a local variety or PGI. The results will be widely disseminated at conferences, networking events, etc.
