Objectives and goals

Greek oregano and its products – oregano oil, have gained great commercial interest and demand in recent years, due to their many applications, especially in animal feed, but also their use in Pharmaceuticals.

The cultivation of oregano in the region of Mavrouda – Soho, is the first to be established in Greece, contributing to a large extent to the economy of the region. Today, due to the great competition in the domestic market, but also internationally, and the different ‘varieties’ of oregano that are on the market, there is a need to modernize the cultivation of oregano in the region. The cultivation of oregano until now can be characterized as “empirical”, i.e. without the prior evaluation of the parameters that maximize quality and reduce inputs. In addition, it is necessary to adapt oregano cultivation to the principles of sustainable and sustainable production.

The objective of the business plan is to modernize the production process of the oregano cultivation of O.G. and to propose a system of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP). Additional objectives are the certification of the quality and special characteristics of the region’s oregano, in combination with the Propagation Material used and the ecological conditions.

The above will contribute to the standardization of the production process with the aim of the sustainable production of oregano in the modern agro-ecological environment, to the certification of quality, the investigation for future registration as a PGI product, and above all to the increase of the competitiveness of the oregano of Mavrouda – Soho in the national and international level.
